    Discovery is the easy part

Why Senterva is being built around placement operations rather than around matching.

Most platforms in this space solve discovery: helping a student find an opportunity, and an employer find a candidate. That problem is well served, and the incumbents have the network effects that make it work.

The harder problem starts after the match is made. A career office has to check the placement meets the programme's requirements. Someone has to know whether the student actually started, whether the supervisor is engaged, and whether a placement abroad has the visa, insurance and accommodation questions answered before anyone gets on a plane. At the end, someone has to be able to prove what the student did.

Today that work runs on spreadsheets, email threads and PDFs. It is not that the tools are bad — it is that there is no shared record. The student, the employer and the university each hold a partial version of the same placement, and the gaps between them are where things go wrong.

Senterva is being built around that shared record. A career office can use it for the placements it already runs, before Senterva has sourced a single opportunity of its own.
